Bremerton's virtuoso saxophonist Mark Lewis and Portland's master bassist David Friesen, each internationally acclaimed for their creativity and musical sensitivity, team up in a collaboration of musical genius for the February Collective Visions Gallery Concert. Ted Gioia, author of The History of Jazz says of Lewis: "You listen to the guys with the primo recording contracts on the very top labels, and in my opinion, they're not in Mark's league.", while noted critic Nat Hentoff, says "Once in a great while, a musician emerges with such authority and such seemingly effortless originality that his place in the front ranks of his instrument is unquestioned. So it is with David Friesen." Performing original compositions and inspired interpretations of jazz standards the CVG gig promises to have local jazz buffs talking well into the future.
